The Role

We're looking for an experience electrically biased Controls Systems Engineer with expertise in electrical systems design and MATLAB/Simulink to join our New Product Development team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on innovative projects.

As a key member of the project team, you'll design, optimise, and maintain electro-mechanical systems on PLC and microcontroller platforms. Research, modelling, and design, system simulations and optimisation are fundamental to this role. Your excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication and collaboration skills will enable you to succeed in this role.

Hours:

Working hours: 37 hours per week, Monday-Friday.
Hybrid working available (2 work from home days a week)

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new products which are safe, legal and compliant while also striving to deliver best-in-class performance.
  • Utilise the teams project management methodology to work collaboratively with the team on projects from start to completion and always adhere to established and documented new product introduction processes.
  • Provide support and technical expertise to ensure existing product ranges remain compliant, updating them accordingly where necessary.
  • Design of Experiment, systems characterisation, design, modelling, simulation and optimisation in Matlab/Simulink.
  • Creation and maintenance of all technical product documentation; including items such as CAE models, costing data, technical construction files, bills of materials, technical specifications, test data etc.
  • Maintain currency of knowledge with all mandatory legislation, relevant codes of practice and appropriate building regulations which are relevant to activities that the business undertakes.
  • Ongoing review and optimisation of product designs to identify and implement cost savings and performance improvements. This includes keeping up to date with core industry technologies and advancements.
  • Innovating and optimising control systems for new and existing products
  • Technically support internal and external customers (Some occasional visits to customer sites in the UK and overseas may be required).

 

The Person

  • Master or PhD qualified in Electrical or Controls Engineering or a similar discipline with focus on electrical control systems design.
  • Proficient in electrical systems design
  • Proficient in microcontroller, PLC, & HMI programming
  • Proficient using AutoCAD Electrical to complement a thorough knowledge of electrical design and concepts including architecture and systems design, routing, etc.
  • Evidence of experience working in a similar engineering or technical design role.
  • Evidence of previously delivering high quality projects on time and within budgeted cost.
  • Experience with creating wiring drawings and systems/architecture drawings.
  • Working knowledge of Harmonised standards and European directives for safe, legal and compliant product design.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a muti-disciplinary team and independently using own initiative.
  • Innovative in thinking with the ability to effectively communicate new ideas with justification from first principles.
  • Able to build good working relationships with colleagues and customers.
  • Good organisation and time management skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience of IT packages including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel or equivalent.
