Overview:

We're recruiting a Technical Manager to join a food manufacturer in Brecon.  The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining Grade A at BRCGS Audit, dealing with non- conformances, 3rd party, customers, also dealing with complaints and customer rejections.

The Role:

  • To lead the technical compliance function of the site ensuring legislative requirements for food safety within the production environment.
  • To interface directly with the customer regarding compliance to food safety and quality issues
  • To ensure that procedures are in place to manage food safety and quality systems e.g. GMP, HACCP
  • To interface with external bodies with regards to customer and 3rd party audits and follow up any nonconformances in a timely manner.
  • To ensure all preparations are in place for annual BRCGS audit.
  • To drive GMP and standards at the site

Duties:

  • To ensure that technical activities on site are robustly structured and managed so as to comply with relevant industry standards (e.g. BRCGS), and customer COP’s
  • To ensure regular reviews are held with direct team members, including performance reviews, one to ones and maintaining appropriate training
  • To facilitate stringent process and finished product controls via the effective management of a robust HACCP system which is audited against and reviewed on a scheduled basis
  • To provide the relevant input into technical specifications for equipment if required to ensure that required standards are met.
  • To ensure that customers systems for specification management are maintained.
  • To carry out ad hoc projects as business needs change.
  • To manage 3rd party and customer audits and non-compliance close out.
  • To run and coordinate internal system audits
  • To investigate all customer complaints and rejections and respond to the customer accordingly.
  • To train and develop the QA team
  • Liaise with Cardiff Met University, to help train personnel on site through their workshops and training days.
  • Oversee and mentor participants in the Affiliate Program.

The Person:

  • Ideally degree educated, Food Science/Technology or Microbiology qualification preferred.
  • Experience at a similar level in food manufacturing, ideally chilled high risk foods
  • Would suit an existing Technical Manager or high caliber Quality Manager looking for next step up
  • Man-management experience
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills
  • Computer literate
  • Good working knowledge of BRCGS version 9
  • Process /Product development experience would be beneficial
  • Consistent approach
  • Able to drive changes and a “can do” attitude.
