The Role:

To ensure site meets the requirements of all competent authorities of a lower tier COMAH site. Infrastructure, planned Maintenance and Predictive Planned Maintenance must be delivered to ensure all process safety assets are operating at optimum levels. Managing the process safety team, you will support other business activities (CAPEX, Breakdowns, CI, Process Capability etc.) With the Engineering Manager you will be technical lead TPEF under BS EN 60079-17, BS EN 61511 Functional Safety.

 

Duties:

  • Identify operational risks and opportunities through HAZOP Workshops ensuring each is mitigated against or maximised where appropriate
  • Support site DSEAR, PUWER and HAZOP committees, be the technical person with executive function (TPEF) in conjunction with the Engineering Manager under BS EN 60079-17 & 14, also BS EN 61511 Functional Safety
  • Ensure DSEAR Risk Assessments are carried out and documented for all activities, where required, and safe working practices are followed or established. Address any Actions arising from both HAZOP & DSEAR Assessments
  • Ensure appropriate safety systems are in place, are up-to-date and appropriate checking procedures are established (i.e. gas detection, LEV, etc.).
  • Ensure operating procedures exist for all major Process Safety Engineering activities.
  • Ensure contractor management controls are relevant and meet the needs of the business safety expectations.
  • Manage day-to-day cross-functional team to deliver process safety maintenance and ensure equipment breakdowns are kept to a minimum
  • Take the lead in the delivery of strategic maintenance activities and major refurbishments relating to ATEX Inspections
  • Ensure all jobs are logged correctly in CMMS (PMs, PPMs, breakdowns etc.)
  • Manage admin of CMMS system relating to Process Safety
  • Responsible for the implementation and management of Process Safety TPM.
  • Manage resource to support internal projects ensuring all are delivered on time and in budget.

 

The Person

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant Process Safety subjects
  • Qualified and Experienced in DSEAR (D), HAZOP (D), PUWER (D), Lower tier COMAH minimum (E), CDM (D), EAWR (E) (CompEX EX14 (D), Comp EX 1 – 4 (E) Responsible Person under TPEF BS EN 60079-17 & 14 and BS EN 61511 Functional Safety) (E) .

E = Essential & D = Desirable

  • Has extensive Engineering experience, preferably in an hazardous area environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of the full range of Engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Civil etc.) with an ability to read, understand and interpret Engineering drawings
  • Good understanding of Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental requirements for COMAH sites
  • Sound knowledge of working with, and improving, Planned Maintenance systems
  • Commercial awareness and a good understanding of business financial requirements.
  • Ability to resolve issues as they occur
  • Ability to work cross-functionally
  • Ability to set and reprioritise workloads
  • Excellent communication skills to Senior Management level – oral and written
