Title:                 Multi Skilled Engineer

Reporting to:  Engineering Supervisor

 

Job Purpose:

To provide engineering support to the production stream working as part of the engineering team, within the individual’s competency and skill set (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic).

The Multi Skilled Engineer is responsible for providing a comprehensive maintenance function covering plant, equipment and auxiliary services.

In addition the Multi Skilled Engineer will strive to continuously improve asset performance by engaging in continuous improvement and problem solving activities.

Job Accountabilities

1 Work Orders

Execute engineering work orders as assigned by the Engineering Supervisor/Engineering Co-Ordinator in a safe, timely and efficient manner.

2 Reactive Maintenance

Respond to all Breakdowns in a timely and prompt manner that arise in the production process or production line, identify the cause of the issue, initiate an appropriate action plan to resolve, report and document actions taken. Escalate issues to the Engineering Supervisor and or the Engineering Manager as advised by the company escalation procedure.

3 Maintenance System

Operate and maintain a computerised maintenance management system (CMMS) for the production stream and site services that will include:

  • Asset register & history
  • Safety risk assessment
  • Machine settings
  • Critical parts list
  • Condition monitoring, autonomous, preventative and predictive maintenance routines
  • Completed work orders
  • Standard work
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

5 Documentation

  • Complete and receive relevant hand-over documentation and communication to next shift and from the previous shift to ensure continuity.
  • Ensure all work completed is documented in a daily shift report in a format detailed by the Engineering Manager.
  • Detail all spare parts used and required to the Engineering Stores team and Engineering Supervisor.

6 Training and Development

  • Attend training courses as required.
  • Partake and when relevant deliver technical training to the production stream team members with the emphasis being on one-point lessons on the key pieces of equipment.

7 Continuous Improvement

  • Demonstrate involvement in continuous improvement activity in both production stream and engineering department projects.
  • Work closely with the production stream team using continuous improvement methodologies to focus / prioritise problem solving efforts to improve asset performance.

8 Engineering Drawings

  • Follow electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical assembly drawings to ensure the prompt identification of production equipment faults.

9 Internal Customer Service

  • Demonstrate in actions and attitude that Engineering is a support function to Production.
  • Engage in production stream issues and provide support where required for the overall benefit of the Company.
  • Monitor the performance of equipment when running, and discuss any issues and improvements with Production Group Leaders, Team Leaders and Operators.

 

Specific Skill Requirements

1 Education

  • Time Served Craft Apprenticeship in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • City & Guilds, National Craft Certificate, NVQ Level 3, or relevant mechanical or electrical qualification
  • Proficient written, numerical and verbal skills
  • Proficiency and fluency of English language (oral and written)
  • Basic computer competency in MS Office and any CMMS systems

2 Technical

  • Specialisation in either mechanical or electrical engineering
  • Can demonstrate understanding and previous use of continuous improvement tools and techniques including: TPM, RCA, 5S, RCM, Kaizen & SMED
