Overview

We are currently recruiting a Manufacturing Manager for a food manufacturing company based in the Gwent area of South Wales.  The company are experiencing a rapid rate of growth so this could be an excellent, challenging opportunity for the right individual.

 

The Role

This role reports in to the Site Lead and is directly responsible for the day to day tactical management of the operational aspect of the business with a strong influence and participation in the strategic planning and development of the operations team.

 

To take full responsibility for managing the production, packing lines and people to ensure that all products are manufactured according to specification, required quality standards, to time and in a safe working environment whilst using the correct quantity and quality of raw materials.

Duties:

  • Manufacture all products according to plan, specification and quality whilst minimising waste. Ensuring that all the above are done as cost effectively as possible using a range of “Modern Lean Manufacturing” techniques.
  • Ensure that you have an understanding of the next day and coming week’s/months requirements in terms of production, resources, skills and materials.
  • Communicate and take action as appropriate to all KPI’s: including yield, wastage, customer service, plan completion, quality reports, absence, (and all other associated KPI’s).
  • Ensure all team members are suitably trained; understand their objectives, the standards required, are reliable and punctual in their attendance and are motivated to the job.
  • Ensure all employees are trained and signed off on all relevant tasks. Liaise with the training department to ensure training records are up to date and training plans are in place for individuals as required.
  • For each and every key role ensure you have suitably trained deputy (minimum) or deputies to cover any case of absence (planned or unplanned).
  • Have responsibility for performance, conduct, attendance and timekeeping and disciplinary (up to dismissal level with HR support) matters for all employees under your control.
  • Liaise with your Factory Manager on any recruitment issues.
  • Have a process in place to ensure that all employees complete a return to work form after any absence (including holiday, unauthorized absence and sick absence); keep you manager up to date of any employees with short term or long term absence problems.
  • Play a leading role in the departments Tiered meetings.
  • Ensure all documentation and IT system information required (production, H&S and technical) is completed and forwarded to the appropriate parties in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Maintain a safe working environment; including clean and tidy working areas and ensuring all employees are wearing the correct PPE from a safety and food safety perspective. Ensure all staff are working to the SSOW procedures and are involved in the health and safety improvement activities.
  • Work with the New Product Development team and the technical team to successfully carry out production trials and launch new products.
  • Liaise with all other departments as appropriate to find solutions to problems.
  • Where ever possible provide solutions to problems without breaking policies, procedures or specification. Otherwise advise Factory Manager of any issues beyond your control, however you must still have responsibility for ensuring that actions or answers are provided for your problem.
  • Separate objectives will be set on an on going basis, which will need completion to.

 

The Person

  • Experience and competency in a production environment, preferably from a food manufacturing background
  • Computer literate including basic use of company’s business software packages
  • Understanding of practical application of Production, technical, HR and safety processes and procedures including working practices pertaining to the site
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles
  • Intermediate food hygiene certificate
  • People management skills (e.g. counselling, disciplinary, training needs)
  • Planning and organising skills
  • Interpersonal skills including the ability to evaluate and respond appropriately
  • Communication skills, verbal and written including presentation skills and report writing
  • Numeracy skills including basic data analysis and interpretation
