Overview

We are currently recruiting a Technical Manager for a food manufacturer based in Devon.  You can expect to achieve a salary of £30 - £35,000 working a 37.5-hour week.

 

The Role

The Technical Manager is responsible for maintaining food safety and quality systems for all products and processes to meet food regulatory, compliance and company standards.  Maintenance of the company’s BRC accreditation and other external accreditations as required by differing customer markets

Duties will include:

  1. To function as a professional, focused member of the coordinated site management team and manage the technical / quality team to support the company’s growth.
  2. Continuously monitor and regulate product quality standards.
  3. Audit the systems that deliver quality to ensure continuous quality improvement
  4. Maintenance and development of the Quality Management System including regulatory compliance, procedural validation, routine technical trend analysis and reports, presentation of KPIs, handling and resolving  non-conformances, customer complaints, foreign body reports, site microbiological analysis and systems related to food safety.
  5. Maintenance of systems to ensure pre-requisites connected with suppliers and ingredient purchases are achieved, including supplier audits, ingredient specifications and ingredient conformance to site standards and requirements.
  6. Maintenance of systems that provide full traceability for all food ingredients and primary food packaging in compliance with regulations and the principles of good practice, including the interfaces with suppliers and customers.
  7. Maintenance of Manufacturing Instructions (recipes) and ingredient details to facilitate and produce label declarations that achieve regulatory compliance, including interfacing with TSOs, EHOs and other Official bodies, both for in-house generated labels and those of our customers.
  8. Liaise with and support NPD functions to expedite smooth and rapid product transition from development to production, including quality, regulatory, HACCP related and food safety aspects during new product development or existing product improvement projects.
  9. Develop and manage the HACCP system as HACCP team leader, as well as being the Team Leader of the Companies Product Recovery Procedure.
  10. Provide daily Technical factory floor presence to ensure QMS compliance.
  11. To liaise with customer’s technical departments to provide technical information to support their auditing and regulatory compliance systems

 

The Person

  • Has recognised HACCP (minimum level 3), Food Safety (minimum level 3 desirable) and internal auditing qualifications.
  • Has a minimum of 2 years experience within a similar role
  • Has knowledge and experience of BRC accreditation
  • Experience of multiple retailer codes of practice
  • Ability to lead, train and develop a team
  • Experience of managing customer complaints
  • Be proficient in the use of – Microsoft IT packages especially Excel
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language
  • Has knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety issues particularly with regard to the food industry

 

It is desirable that the post holder:

  • Has a recognised formal qualification e.g. food science or technology degree or HND/C
  • Has experience of Sage 200 software
