Overview
We are currently recruiting a Mechanical / Electrical Design Engineer for a company based in Llantrisant, South Wales. The successful candidate can expect to achieve a salary of £27,000-£35,000.
The Role
To work on and improve the mechanical or electrical design and development of existing and future product platforms within the company.
Duties:
• To provide technical guidance and direction in new product design and continuous improvement
• Develop new product offerings to meet the requirements of the commercial/sales team and market place
• Ability to develop products from initial concept through to volume production
• Ensure adherence to technical standards and compliance for product development and design operations
• Contribution to the evaluation of new materials, processes technologies and products.
• Assist manufacturing in all areas of production and continuous improvement of processes
• Ensure the optimal application of technology and engineering resources to meet the business and customer requirements of product platform developments
• Ensure the planning and execution of development projects are carried out in conformance with the quality management system (ISO 9001)
• Interface with external vendors and researchers to develop new designs and communicate design requirements.
• Design tooling, specifications, and test methods for evaluating prototypes against engineering and customer use.
• Lead, complete and perform task with minimal direction.
• Create innovative technical solutions which lead to the development and introduction of new technologies, products and processes that support the ongoing business need.
• Lead/participate in NPI
• Assist in the decision making of third-party suppliers for Engineering Resources (Injection moulding etc)
• Manage third party suppliers to ensure deadlines are met and project plans run smoothly.
The Person
• Degree or equivalent in a Mechanical / Electrical Engineering discipline
• Demonstrable product design experience
• Design of a variety of products for high volume manufacture and/or High cost, low volume.
• Engineering and Industrial Design experience, balancing aesthetics and form with reliability and performance
• Proficient in the use of 3D design software and 2D drawings.
• Experience of prototyping methods: SLA/SLS, 3D printing, machining, soft tools etc
• A sound knowledge of plastics and injection moulding processes
• A sound knowledge of material choice; plastics, metals, thermal applications.
• Good understanding of Mechanical principles.
• Electrical experience
• A competent and proven ability to work within cross functional engineering teams
• A competent and proven ability to work alone when required and project management – utilising resource as required.
• A good understanding of working within a quality system.
• Experience of working to required product standards/product compliance.
• Analytical and problem-solving approach
• Creating BOM’s and cost sheets
• Risk management (FMEA)
• Effective organisational and decision-making skills
• Able to work seamlessly with internal and external teams
• Excellent oral, written, cross functional and interpersonal communication skills that are appropriate for various levels, including management, staff, contractors and clients
• Demonstrates a positive attitude to change and contributes to new ideas and improved ways of working.
• Demonstrate sound work ethics
