Overview
An exciting opportunity has opened for an Engineering Chargehand / Engineering Supervisor to join a well-established, food manufacturer based in Newport, South Wales.
You will be responsible / working with a small team of engineers and will liaise with them and the Engineering Manager.
You can expect to achieve a salary of up to £33,000 working a three shift pattern of mornings, afternoons & nights Monday-Friday rotating on a weekly basis.
The Role
To assist in direction, co-ordination, planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects within the area of assigned responsibility.
You will be responsible for maintaining all site services and equipment to ensure maximum operating efficiency.
Ensuring best practice is followed in food safety, legality and quality of our product.
Duties will include:
• Assist the Engineering Manager in the planning and formulation of the daily engineering programme and delegate tasks accordingly to other engineering staff and Contractors.
• Liaise daily with production management to ensure a smooth production plan
• Assist in controlling expenditures within limitations of project budget.
• Review equipment design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements and related specifications.
• Manage the day-to-day contractor control system.
• Repair, service and maintain equipment to ensure maximum operating efficiency. Purchase / carry spare parts to repair service and maintain equipment.
• Source additional contract personnel to repair service and maintain equipment as required but within budget.
• Monitor expenditure, identify and communicate adverse cost variations.
• Manage day to day performance and conduct of engineering staff and contractors. Take necessary and appropriate action to maintain the company standards of both.
• Monitor department health and safety and take appropriate action.
• Plan and carry out actions as delegated by the engineering supervisor regarding Health & Safety.
• Attend appropriate meetings when requested and in the absence of the Engineering Supervisor.
• Provide a day based engineering point of contact and continuity in the absence of the Engineering supervisor.
The Person
• Must be PC literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
• Strong communicator, both verbal and written knowledge and understanding of health and safety.
• Minimum ONC engineering qualification and time served apprenticeship preferably electrical bias a benefit
• Good report writing skills.
• Knowledge of steam systems and refrigeration.
• Flexible, Team player, able to work with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable working in both an office and factory environment
• Good organisational skills, able to plan personal workload and ensure that colleagues deliver to agreed timescales.
• Experience in operating in a Food Manufacturing environment
