The Role
The successful candidate will work with the Laser Lab Manager and be responsible for re-building and testing of solid state lasers.
Another key aspect of the role will be to deliver laser related training to both employees and customers – this could be at Bridgend or travelling to customer sites.
There is great development potential within this role so would suit a graduate.
Duties
General duties are to undertake the re-build and full function testing of solid state lasers in a clean-room environment.
- Optic lab duties: check and assemble optics, clean for factory.
- To collect data from such work, reporting findings and assessing the analysis of the data.
- Undertake any other projects and duties as requested and which are within the competence of the job holder.
- To monitor and maintain component stock levels.
- Occasional repairs to lasers at customer sites.
- Assist the Training Department with the maintenance of intelligible instruction manuals,
- To be available to carry out training courses both in house and at customer facilities.
- Initial testing of damaged laser head/ power supply, to establish primary fault conditions.
- Disassembly of laser head and detailed examination of optical components.
- Replacement of optical components where appropriate.
- Installation of replacement laser head components where necessary.
- Complete re-build and optical alignment of laser heads.
- Full function and stability testing of completed laser head
- Installation of replacement components to power supply where necessary
- Final checking of safety, quality and performance of laser system.
The Person
- It is expected that candidates will be from a technical or laboratory background with hands-on experience of electronics.
- Knowledge of optics and laser physics would be a distinct advantage, though full training would be given.
- Excellent IT, written and verbal communication skills to engage with internal and external contacts and the confidence to tailor and deliver both theoretical and practical knowledge to trainees of varying skill backgrounds.
- Highly organised with the determination to complete assignments on time and without compromising quality.
- A logical thinker with accuracy and attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
