Summary of Job Role
The Quality Assurance Manager’s aim is to ensure the production of safe, high-quality, and compliant products through the implementation and maintenance of a robust quality management system. The manager is responsible for overseeing the quality control and inspection processes, performing internal audits, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards. The ultimate goal is to protect the company's reputation, increase customer satisfaction, and drive continuous improvement in the quality of products manufactured.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Developing, implementing, and maintaining the company's quality management system that meets regulatory requirements and industry standards. This includes developing policies and procedures, identifying key performance indicators (KPIs), and establishing quality objectives and targets.
- Overseeing and conducting regular quality control inspections and testing which includes conducting regular inspections and testing of raw materials, in-process products, and finished products. This ensures that the products meet quality specifications and are safe for consumption.
- Conducting internal audits of the quality management system to ensure that it is being implemented effectively and is meeting regulatory requirements and industry standards. This includes identifying areas for improvement and developing corrective and preventive actions.
- Act as the Company’s main point of contact and take the lead on external audits such as BRC and against supermarket standards. Prepare for and manage the process communicating the outcome to all relevant parties
- Collaborating with production, P&I, and other departments to ensure that products are manufactured to meet quality specifications. This includes providing technical support and guidance and ensuring that quality issues are resolved in a timely manner.
- Responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of quality control activities, including inspections, testing, and audits. This documentation is essential for demonstrating compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Keeping abreast of relevant regulations and industry standards and ensure that the company is in compliance with them. This includes monitoring changes to regulations and standards and updating the quality management system as necessary.
- Investigating and resolving quality-related issues and customer complaints. This includes identifying the root cause of the issue, developing corrective and preventive actions, and implementing them to prevent recurrence.
- Developing and implementing training programs for quality assurance and production personnel (relevant to quality). This ensures that employees are trained to perform their roles effectively and that the quality management system is being implemented consistently.
- Providing technical expertise and guidance on quality-related matters to other departments. This includes ensuring that quality-related decisions are made based on sound technical and scientific principles.
- Taking lead on the HACCP systems and ensuring reviews are conducted at appropriate times. That all products are manufactured to the systems and procedures set by the HACCP procedures.
- Manage a small QA team to include absence management, discipline and conducting performance reviews. Identify training needs to aid individuals development.
- Ensure that the department’s activities are conducted in compliance with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies. This includes identifying and mitigating potential hazards, implementing risk assessments, and promoting a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
Qualifictaions
- Level 4 HACCP
- Level 4 Food Safety
- Certified Internal Auditor
- IOSH Managing Safely
- NVQ in Supervision (or similar)
- Degree educated in Food Science/Technology
- Certified external auditor
- Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership (or equivalent)
